Another good post via NPR highlighting a school program to bring school gardens to intercity schools. Many students who attend these schools are low-income and have little access to healthy food choices. One student accounts, "We mainly live around liquor stores and snack stores. There aren't that many grocery stores. They're way out, and you have to drive so far." To many of these children gardening is a foreign concept but is fundamental for a sustainable and healthy future.
A teacher in the article puts it nicely saying, "The payoff is exponential, because they'll be young mothers or young fathers someday, and they'll feed their children based on what they've learned now,"

Check out this article on NPR about the Mediterranean Diet. This diet has been extensively studied and shown benefits in the prevention of many forms of cancer. The best part is that the diet is fairly simple to follow. It emphasizes whole foods, vegetables and lean meats but even encourages red wine and dark chocolate in moderation. The diet is heavy on the use of olive oil and salmon which provides heart and brain healthy fats.
